What is up with all this 2012 doomsday crap? i hear it all over the place in classes, internet, even saw a book at barnesandnoble about it. do u believe in all of this or wha?

I forgot to ask this on the 2012 thread, but i was gonna ask what u have heard of 11:11. Its supposed to be something strange and i have been seeing this number a lot recently.

If you all wonder. It is the last day of Maya calendar 2012/12/21 it is said the world will have a great change or end what ever you want to say.

And why because the earth will line up with center with our galaxy that happens every 25000 year. Some belive that our magnetic filed will shift, and that will create massive flood earthquake tornado and so on

Its not nescesarily the end of the world, just as we know it so maybe something big will happen that will change things forever.

Here my option who ever keeps on saying the world is going to end in 2012 or whatever then those people have got to stop reading the Book of Revelation and read a different part of the bible. I mean life too short to be scared of the end of the world or hating other people of different races. Nostradamus to my knowing has never put an time stamp when things will happened because of /cough: inquisition :whip2 .

Y2K was not an scam it did happen to old routers and computers. My bios died when it happend so I had to flash my bios becuase of it. So yes it happend not in a big scale but some computers that were old did crash :whip2

Just a point of clarification...
The Mayan calendar was/is meant to stop when it does...
First, they finished it long before being conquered.
Second, they have prophecies relating to the end of the calender ("The world will undergo a great change")
Personally, I don't think they meant the end of the world, but just what they said, "a great change".

I've been hanging around with a more ereudite set of nutcases. Instead of the end of the world, they look at 2012 as the start of the next Kali Yuga or of The Singularity. Kali Yugae (if thaty's the correct plural, which I doubt.) are the Hundu equivalent of a geological epoch to Western Materialist-Mechanist thought, and The Singularity is a time of change so profound and coming ever more fast and furious that life will be incomprehensible to those who came before it.
I plan on not worrying about it. Life goes on, and we've survived a helluva lot as a species. I expect we'll muddle through this as well. I wish you well.

Well Thinking aobut this has gotten me really paranoid over the past couple of days but hearing people say "Great Change" makes me feel better. But i feel this is all a hoax. And if it turns out to be a hoax then i doubt it'll be that serious though there is doubt in my mind.

No one is clear on exactly what the Mayan's meant to communicate by ending the calendar in 2012. A lot of their sacred documents were destroyed and the few we have are hard to interpret without context.

There have been a lot of doomsday theories over the years, I think the reason people put so much stock into the Mayan prophecy is because their calendar has proven to be so accurate. It's possible they know of some sort of cosmic event that we don't. Personally I hope this is just another bad guess.

Yeah, all the "doomsday" dates have been talked about for centuries, what makes the Mayans more correct than everyone else before them? I think is just a load of horse bull.

this date, dec 21, 2012 is supported by a lotta ancient culture like mayan's calendar, china's iching, Nostradamus and so on... all suggest that the earth's poles will shift cause by the galactic alignment (alignment btwn the sun with the equator of milky way)

but 2012 is suppose to be end of a world and start of a new, 5th world golden age (base on mayan's). They made suggested it as the end of a old world nothing about end of human race.
