So this week I've been quite sick - I don't get sick very often, but when I do, boy do I ever. This week it's been a dry, raspy cough, headache, sinus pressure, fever, cold sweats, and my body feels like I got beat up - sore joints and muscle pain. I've been doing everything I can - chicken soup, orange juice, cough syrup, echinacea, but I still feel like a Pepto-Bismol commercial. What do you guys do when you're under the weather? Any good home remedies you'd reccommend?
Like you I too get sick very rarely (last big sicktime was like 5 years ago).
But unfortunately I don't have any home cures to share
" What do YOU do when you're sick?"
Take it out on everybody else. Of course. :jestera:
But seriously. I'm like IIa. I rarely get sick. And this is by design. I purposely limit my human to human contact. From what i can't help, to zero. But if i do get sick. I use over the counter crap. Or see my Doc, if its really bad. Sorry, no secret cures here.

Last time I got sick I had to go to the Dr for antibiotic as I had a throat infection.
Lots of fluid and rest, they say it has to run its course, like 7days if you go to a Doctor or not.
I find that Tylenol PM help to get the sleep needed and to keep from coughing so much.

I believe that drugs are a last resort, I won't take them unless the pain is incredible. As most of us know, drugs treat symptoms not the causes of a virus, disease, illness or whatever. The common cure is 7up and chicken noodle soup. Usually if my sinus's are stuffed up I tilt my head back a bit and jump up and down, if my head hurts usually sleep, lots of water, maybe a hot shower/bath and a lot of good deep breathing takes care of that, as well as the rest of my body. Most humans in the US are under the notion that we need drugs and that as soon as we get ill we should dash over to the doctor and get some sort of prescription for something.
Many of us fail to come to the conclusion that although you may feel better during that haze those drugs put you in, you are actually doing a lot of really bad things to your body during it. Our bodies were designed to be self sufficient. We weren't born with a lack of drugs, we need sunlight, we need water, we need lots of variation in our diets to give us the nutrients we need. Personally I think that the strategy of 'avoiding as much human contact as possible' is a very bad one. Think of it as the chicken pox but on a much larger scale. If you avoid getting chicken pox for as long as you can and one day when your 42 you get it you and your body will cope with it VERY poorly in contrast to how you would when you are 8 years old. I hope you feel better soon, a warm bath almost always makes me feel much better.

None of the methods I tried made me feel *much* better, but combined they did help me get through it at least. The fever broke and the rest of the symptoms of tapering off thankfully.

Drink lots of water, get lots of rest, and knock myself out with the appropriate Sinutab medication. I get sick rarely as well, so drugs hit me hard, which means I usually only need to take a set of 2 sinutab for a day or two (like one set one evening, and one set the next) before I am pretty much better.

amen to sleep... nothing beats a good 50mg capsule of Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride to knock you out even in the worst of times. Also the opposite is true though, work through it. If you punish yourself enough you're body seems to heal faster, 'least in my experience... though maybe i shouldn't recommend it to the faint of heart.

When I don't want medicine when I'm sick, I usually just drink a lot of water, rest, and lay in bed to watch tv.
Sleep and old fashion chicken noodle soup does it for me.

Combined with the avatar, it was extremely cute XD
I have an odd 'remedy' thats really a chicken soup variant; most chinese takeout restaurants sell some sort of 'combination noodle soup', that has a chicken broth base with other flavors, a bunch of vegetables (cabbage, etc), noodles of course, and some various meaty bits. When hot, the steam is really helpful... but for some inexplicable reason, it almost always seems to help me get over whatever sickness I'm dealing with.
That said, the conventional wisdom is "starve a fever, feed a cold" - hydration is probably the most important part for you right now, with a little salt to ensure you replace what you lose from sweating. One other random product I've experienced is orange or fruit punch gatorade - the stuff normally tastes pretty disgusting, but if I'm dehydrated or otherwise needing what's in it, it suddenly and abruptly tastes really good - the body's way of saying you need it. Don't try the lime stuff, thats ALWAYS disgusting x.x
As for the rest... fruit, especially watermelon. Pineapple is nice, but it tends to leave an odd taste in your mouth and kinda crinkle the back of your throat.
The only 'medicine' I have ever attributed a quick cure to was this junk called Thera-Flu... but drinking it made me seriously want to retch x.x Very much a last resort, that one.

My friends think im strange (and potentially an alien/robot) because i'm never ill (never had a day off sick in my life) and ive never had a headache in my life either.
I guess that doesn't help you though, unless i can inject some of my blood, it might be the cure for everything! like in heroes lol.
Don't think ill be jumping of of tall things to find out though.

Keep hydrated.
As for the throat problems(I get them alot because I'm an actor), stay away from dairy products. Try some warm lemon tea with honey-- tastes good and good for you.

Sleep, sleep, sleep, sleep, sleep... Drink lots, have some chicken soup then sleep some more! That's always worked for me.
To add another throat fix, cup of tea/coffee/cocoa/hot water, brandy/rum/whiskey and lemon/honey/sugar (pick one from each list :P). That'll sort it out^^

I haven't felt sick in a long time. Maybe because I don't go out a lot. When I do get sick, I just lay down. Drink orange juice or water for a couple of days.

I don't get sick, but if anything, some chicken soup, Green Tea, and sometime Pine cone Tea with Honey, Lemon, and peppermints, that should knock out the cold and it is also makes good humidifier as well.
