I speak english and some french; the product of an early school system that TRIES to get kids interested in languages and then utterly fails to follow through on keeping them current in it.
It might help if they'd offered more appropriate languages in my area...

this thread reminds me of the Norwegian movie "Lange flate ballær 2" (long flat balls 2)
Where the main characters are in a military drill with some US navy, and one of the US lieutenant's have Norwegian ancestors and tell them a phrase she thinks is a fishers praising to the fish on Norwegian, but in reality it was a bunch of swearing words.

My main language is English, and I took 2 years of Spanish in high school. I do, however have a weird gift that enables me to listen to my grandmother speak Mandarin and understand what she says. I guess it's because I used to live there.

Grew up with English, have since done a lot with German, and am relatively fluent in it (I could survive at least).
Also, 1 month of Italian, which I learned using German, because I couldn't speak English...

I speak english, since it's my native tongue. But I'll be learning Spanish, since my girlfriend is, and I want to impress her, and her family.
I will also soon be learning Japanese.
I had already taken classes for both, back in High School and College, but I didn't pay attention, even though I had passed.

English, collegiate vocabulary and more than a few archaisms (note how infrequently the verb "to tup" gets used in 21st Century vocabulary!), French, rusty to the point of immobility, enough Spanish to order a beer or get my face slapped, non-conversational but servicable Latin and a few good cuss words in German.
